Three middle school age mountain bikers

Spring and Fall Seasons

The GVYC Middle School Mountain bike program is for boys and girls ages 11-14, from enthusiastic beginners to confident single-track shredders. This is the core program of GVYC’s progression into the high school race team and junior development program. Our focus is on fundamental mountain bike skills and fitness development. GVYC has experienced and trained coaches ready to share their enthusiasm for mountain biking in a safe and engaging manner.

Thank you to The Gear Junction for sponsoring our Fall 2002 Middle School Program!  Please stop by their shop at 436 Main Street in Grand Junction to tell them thanks for supporting more kids on bikes!

We highly recommend middle school athletes to use flat pedals, stiff soled (closed toed) shoes, and wear protective gear such as shin guards, knee, and elbow pads. Bike helmets are mandatory and must be always worn.

GROUPS: During the first week of GVYC Middle School MTB program, athletes are grouped into ability-based groups of 6-8 riders and 1-2 coaches. Many factors are involved in forming groups, such as athlete’s age, experience, sibling needs, group chemistry and many other factors. Our head coach makes the final determination for groups.

LOCATIONS: We will meet at several different trailhead locations. Our first few practices we like to meet at Wingate Elementary and ride the trails on the private property that GVYC has permission to ride that is known as “Water Tower” or “Easter Hill.” This is a great area to get to know riders' abilities and meet in a less hectic environment than the main trailhead at Lunch Loops. Coaches will communicate in advance as meeting locations may change throughout the season.
