Trail groms on a group ride at the Lunch Loops

Introducing Grand Valley Groms Program

After being asked for many years whether GVYC has programs for younger riders, we are pleased to announce that we are launching our Grand Valley Groms (young riders) program for riders in or going into 3rd through 5th Grades. This program is a fun, supportive opportunity for riders who are itching to ride more, build skills and experience, meet other riders, have tons of fun, and grow as mountain bikers in a safe, supportive, fun environment.

Our Groms program is lead by skilled, supportive coaches maintaining a coach to rider ratio of 2:7 so riders get individual attention, and can develop as mountain bikers in an atmosphere of supportive coaches and peers. Riders should be comfortable riding a gear bike with hand brakes on dirt trails. It is recommended that riders have experience riding in a group setting and can comfortably ride 5 miles.

The program will run 6-weeks and meet Tuesday mornings.

Class Requirements

  • Riders should have a mountain bike with off-road tires, hydraulic disc brakes, multi-gear drivetrain that the rider can operate.
  • A bike tube to fit the tire size of the bike. (IMPORTANT)
  • Modern helmet in good shape that fits.
  • A healthy trail snack.
  • Hydration pack or other way of carrying sufficient water for 2 hours in summer heat, snack(s), supplies, tools.

This program is our first young rider program and will be expanding this fall and next season with interest. When class fills, we will maintain a waitlist and announce availability for Drop-In participation.
