Ride n Vibes Aid Station #2 Butterknife
DETAILS:
Support the big race in town and all the GVYC racers by hanging at the Third Flats Aid Station and cheering, supporting, and having a blast at a critical stage in the race. The Third Flats Aid Station is at the end of Butterknife where the Dirty 30 heads up Third Flats Road and where the Filthy 40 racers turn down Third Flats road to complete the Magellan Loop and Windmill Road. Butterknife is a challenging trail that often serves as a breakpoint in the race. Supporting riders with a cheer, nutrition, or hydration can make a big difference in someone's race/ride. It is an exciting place to volunteer.
GVYC will bring a trail party! Music, costumes, high energy cheering, and snacks that make tired riders excited. This is what makes Aid Stations so fun! We will provide the speaker. You bring the costume (optional), fun snacks, and the energy. It's going to be a blast!
In addition to all the fun, it is also important to bring sunscreen, a sun hat, sunglasses, water, and clothing layers that allow you to be comfortable and functional no matter the weather. A daypack helps keep your stuff organized. A small camping chair might be helpful.
Volunteers will ride their bikes down Third Flats Road to get to the Aid Station. The race will go all morning and into the early afternoon. After much of a day of cheering, volunteers will then need to ride their bike up Third Flats Road. This is a strenuous ride. It is beautiful, but a constant climb up to Third Flats Trailhead.

Set up the tent, prep nutrition, get the hydration station set up, then cheer and support riders with a fun, party-like positive attitude. Music and good vibes make hard rides fun!
You can park at the Third Flats Trailhead. You will ride 3.5 miles down Third Flats Road to the Aid Station. You should depart the Third Flats Trailhead and be riding down to the Aid Station by 8am so that you can be at the Aid Station by 8:15am. At the aid station, we will cheer riders, support riders, throw a trail party, and then ride back up to the top after all the fun. Expect 30-45 minutes to ride out.
We will leave the Aid Staton site cleaner than we found it so please avoid bringing things that have lots of wrappers, or make trash. Please bring your own water so there is plenty for the riders. You must have a helmet (of course) while you ride, a bike, and clothing you need to spend some of the day outside in the Grand Valley. Sunscreen are a good idea.
The climb is strenuous and it is recommended that this is not your first time riding Third Flats Road. It isn't especially technical, but it is an unrelenting climb on a double track desert road with some steep sections. Only bring things down that you can ride with back up.
